Meet Antonino Torres Ruiz
Antonino Torres is the illustrator of two of our stories, “Hugo” and “Cecilia”.
@antonino.torres is originally from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. He studied visual arts at the University of Veracruz, specializing in illustration for children's books.
His longtime interest in the indigenous cultures of Latin America, led him to embark on a Master's degree in Archeology. He’s currently researching indigenous art from the Colonial era at the College of Michoacan.
One of the things we love about his work is that he does everything by hand; with ink, watercolors and oil paintings!
Some of the most common themes in Antonino’s art are native symbolism and some other Latin American elements like clothing, music and environments.
No wonder that his dog (and muse) is a Xoloitzcuintli! A rare native Mexican breed of hairless dogs that, according to Aztec belief, was created by the gods to guard the living and guide the souls of the dead through the dangers of Mictlán, the underworld 😮.
Check out Antonino’s stunning work in “Hugo” and “Cecilia”.
