Meet Daniela Maestres
Meet Daniela Maestres. She’s a Venezuelan writer, and the creator of our stories “Hugo” and “Cecilia”.
Although she’s been roaming around the world for a decade, she feels strong links to her heritage and upbringing, that keep getting reflected in her writing.
“When I was little, my mom would challenge me to find the message or moral of the movies we watched and the stories we read. She would also encourage me to make up stories based on the scenes or characters in paintings, even when they were abstract! So it kind of became the way I approach life. I’m always looking for underlying meaning in things. This obviously comes out through my stories a lot. I can’t help but fill them with symbolism, and I always tend to begin by defining the ‘bigger message’ that I want to weave into the plots.”
As if that wasn’t enough to develop her style, Daniela’s grandmother, a highly regarded Colombian poet, taught her to write (and think!) in verse. This is the reason why “Hugo” and “Cecilia” and some of her upcoming FabuLingua stories, are written in rhyme; which can stimulate memory and phonetic awareness in children!
