Meet María Ramos
Meet María Ramos, the quirky writer and illustrator behind FabuLingua’s newest story!
@maria_ramosbravo studied fine arts at university in Salamanca, but she quickly found out that she was not interested in galleries or giant canvases. The humble illustrated picture book was the medium she chose to express herself. She believes children are the most exquisite critics (and much less pretentious)!
She has published books on bats who scare people, a boy who is made out of bubble gum and mounds of friendly fruits and vegetables! Since she created her book ‘Pícnic’ with publisher @fulgenciopimentel_e_hijos, she has not stopped getting offers to illustrate food, which she loves!
“I am interested in narrative”, explains Ramos, “however, I would like to get away from the classic use of script and be more experimental. That is the magic of the picture book.”
We love her deliberately naïve style, her bold use of color and space as well as her humor. Her art is simple, elegant and truly unique.
She now teaches illustration in Madrid, and spends her time finding vintage toys in Madrid’s flea markets to take apart and use as muses for new projects. She creates her drawings at the very top of a glass tower, seated next to strange creatures. If you ever go by there, you’ll surely hear her laugh.
